UNICEF HUNGARIAN COMMITTEE
Profile:
UNICEF Hungarian Committee represents UNICEF, the world's
largest child-protection organisation in Hungary.
Aims to draw public attention - in Hungary - to the state
of the world's children, to those especially in the worst
circumstances.
Contributes to the execution of international children programs
of UNICEF.
Participates in forming a politically and socially sensible
environment, which supports the international development
policy of the Republic of Hungary.
Stands up for children' rights. Lobby to bring children'
rights to the forline at political and economical decision
making. With its children' programs, facilitates the participation
of children in society, and helps the public to familiarise
with the thinking of children.
Activities:
An organisation of public utility, without regular state
subsidy. Self-sustaining, financing its programs from donations.
Supports the health, educational, and child protection programs
of UNICEF by over a 100 million HUF annually, from selling
postcards and fundraising.
The committee between 2001-2003 among other activities:
- Supported with 70 thousand dollar the set up of temporary
schools in draught stricken areas of Ethiopia
- Spent 12 thousand dollar for AIDS prevention in Uganda
with youth participation
- Supported with 13 thousand dollar the education of children
in Afghanistan
- Provided 25 million litre of water for families in Iraq
- Financed 50 thousand mothers-to-be' immunisation against
tetanus
Regions: UNICEF has child protection programs in
150 countries around the world.
