EUROPEAN CENTER FOR NOT-FOR-PROFIT LAW

Profile:
The mission of the European Centre For Not-For-Profit Law (ECNL) is to strengthen the adequate legal environment for civil organisations. The aim of the organisation is to build a supportive, incentive legal infrastructure and legal practice for civil society in Hungary and in the countries of Central Eastern Europe.
ECNL is the successor of the Budapest based Eastern European Regional Program of International Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL). Since 1996, the regional program has served as the supporter of legal reforms concerning NGOs in the region and in Hungary.
ECNL facilitates the legal development of the following areas: professional independence; the set up, registration, functioning, and management of not-for-profit organisations; tax benefits, public benefits, volunteering, public participation; and the relation of government and non-for-profit organisations (financing, grant applications, outside contracting).

Activities:
Core activities are: technical, expertise assistance, not-for-profit legal research and consulting; active participation in legislation; organising seminars and workshops for development NGOs in the fields of legal reform affecting civil society; education of NGO-specialised legal expertise; regional network building (facilitates cross-border exchange and information-sharing).

Volunteers: 6-8 law students annually (CEU, ELTE), a possibility for voluntary field-work (1-2/year)
