Profile:
Caritas Hungarica is a public-benefit, humanitarian organisation
helping anyone in need, regardless of gender, age and religion
through providing aids of different kinds, and also maintaining
social, and health institutions. The charity was founded
in 1928, its operation was suspended between 1945 and 1990,
in 1990 was registered again, and a national aid network
system was completed by 1995. Besides carrying out voluntary
tasks, the charity has established social, and health institutions
since 1994, while gradually joining the international charity
and humanitarian field. The organisation is the official
relief agency of the Catholic Church, whose operation is
guided by the rules and regulations of acknowledged international
aid organisations.
Activities:
The charity coordiantes and manages voluntary and expertise
workforce dealing with social and charity issues working
in movement-related charity groups, organisations, monasteries,
and in the central offices of the Hungarian Catholic Bishop's
Conference. The core activities are: fundraising campaigns,
social and charity services, providing emergency aid programs
in times of catastrophes both nationally and internationally.
The charity executed projects for the support of flood-victims
in Ukraine-Transcarpathia, for the ethnical conflict in
Rwanda, and for the people of war stricken Afghanistan.
International relations:
The charity is a member of Caritas Internationalis (Rome),
an alliance of 162 catholic organisations in seven regions
of the world, promoting relief and development assistance
and social justice. 48 charity organisations cooperate within
the framework of the Brussels-based Caritas Europe, in Europe's
44 countries.
