ANTHROPOLIS ANTHROPOLOGICAL
PUBLIC BENEFIT ASSOCIATION
Profile:
The Anthropolis Association was founded in 2002 by young
anthropologists, with the purpose of becoming a solid, civil,
know-how organisation of the national cultural-anthropological
research community and the public, which takes part both
in domestic applied research and in international human
research and developmental projects. The primary aim of
the Association is to create an open, intellectual base,
where universal values, methodological and approach questions
are treated from an anthropological and experiential point
of view. Currently, the association strives to join the
international field of research and development, since its
members strongly believe, that the accumulated research
findings of cultural anthropologists and their specific
knowledge enables social communities in need - especially
in the less known regions of third world countries - to
receive the relevant help from humanitarian and development
programs. As the association understands, the particular
research method of social anthropology helps the deeper
understanding, analysis, and acquisition of local (aboriginal)
context, which is the stepping stone for adequate target-
oriented development help, beyond ad-hoc type humanitarian
aid.
Activities:
The Association's tasks include: visual anthropology (documentary
production, socio-photography and its publication), already-completed
and ongoing research projects in urban anthropology; the
set up of an extensive anthropological web-site, regular
newsletter service; organising public forums, exhibitions,
conferences and other events; anthropological network building
in Central Eastern Europe, further partnership facilitation.
An Ethiopian development program has been complied, based
on previous research carried out in the Borana-community
in South-Ethiopia. The association is involved in the execution
of a series of public awareness programs within the frame
of an international development project. Anthropolis also
deals with the local accumulation of international volunteering.
